Chalet Aconcagua, Zermatt
Behind the windows of the chalet, the Matterhorn. A snow-white giant with a pyramid summit, reproduced uncountable times by painters and inspiring many Swiss designers. One had to wait 1865 before a small group of adventurers attained its summit that reaches a height of some 4500 meters, this has been the last great mountain climbing achievement. A few decades later, the first winter sports resorts would appear in this fantastic region, the Swiss Alps.
A fascinating territory as the Matterhorn is not the only mountain that reaches and exceeds 4000 meters. Some forty other peaks are reaching more or less the same height, making this area the perfect spot for ski. Over 350 kilometers of ski slopes have been traced around the Matterhorn, while the ancient village surrounded by the passes has been carefully preserved. To join Chalet Aconcagua, set in the heart of the village, one has to forget about the car, the use of them being forbidden. From the private parking, one takes the shuttle in direction of the center. The sublime residence is only a few minutes from the ski lifts.
Luxurious, it displays its three stories and 555 m2 of surface in front of the imperious mountain. The wood work is traditional, wood paneling expresses itself in different ways, from walls to floors and beams. Here in the Jacuzzi, the Turkish bath, the game room or the prestigious sound system which has been installed in every room. The aesthetic level is embodied by the design furniture, the superb fire place or the few contemporary artwork that has been brilliantly displayed. Their beauty is a continuity to the marvelous landscapes that are to be looked at through the floor to ceiling windows.
Extraordinary panoramas, one can see from the balconies, balconies belonging to each of the rooms: large suites that all benefit from an adjacent bathroom with a tub or a shower.
From here, the Matterhorn largely occupies the horizon. Solidly planted in the forest of conifers, its huge shape seems familiar. And often, one feels that one would like to enjoy its sight many more days.
