An hour from Bordeaux, Cap Ferret dives into the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse's bright red tower rises above the tops of the pine trees. On one side, it observes the birds as they fly and the comings and goings of boats into the Arcachon basin. On the other, it watches the waves break onto the dunes. Villa Théo is 700 metres away, sheltered by palm trees and stalks of bamboo.

Take a detour

Join our passionate local guide on a tour of the coastal trails. She will take you for an unusual hike through the wilderness and villages of her childhood. Push open closed doors, take secret paths and meet her favorite producers as you go along the coastline.

Put on the boots of an oyster farmer

Set out on Christian's flat-bottomed oyster boat early in the morning and wade into the water near his oyster farm at low tide. Here, equipped with boots and gloves, you’ll learn the craft of oyster farming and the life cycle of oysters. Christain cheerfully urges you on as you open the oysters: “this gives you strength”.

Tasting at sea

Leave the beach of L'Herbe on a traditional pinasse boat, in the company of a passionate oenologist Gildas and a supply of oysters from the bay. As Gildas presents his selection of Bordeaux grands crus on the boat's glazed deck, enjoy the discovery of his favorite wine and seafood combinations with the bird island’s huts on stilts on the horizon.
