Graduating from a prestigious architecture school, architect Paul Grillo would commence, in 1938, what would become his major life’s work, devoting his talent to a region close to his heart, the Alps. He joined forces with Christian Durupt and André Detour to create a luxurious upper-end ski resort at the heart of the French Haute-Savoie region; a winter destination that would rival with German, Swiss and Austrian counterparts. Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome, Paul Grillo was one of the major protagonists in the founding of Méribel. Grillo, Durupt and Detour decided that all constructions should respect Savoyard style, and imposed the strict use of wood, mountain stone and slate. The rule was scrupulously followed, endowing Méribel with unparalleled rustic beauty in the Tarentaise Valley, while its attraction was doubled by a gigantic ski area, totalling more than 300 pistes. Standing at the edge of a little road, around 300 metres from ski lifts, the impressive residence is more than meets the eye. Behind its traditional façade, it hides a spa and sauna, a hammam and Jacuzzi, a swimming pool, a games room and a cinema room. But there is more than modernity alone inside these walls; the 650 m2 in surface area also hold a living room and a dining room, both crowned by a superb fireplace. Covered with ceiling beams and parquet flooring, these rooms are decorated with authentic local furniture, and extended by a southwest-facing terrace. Wood that adorns the façade is also massively present inside the chalet. This warm material lines the walls, floors and ceilings right up to the suites, most of which come with a bathroom. The master bedroom also offers access to an adjoining balcony. Without a doubt, Chalet Hadrien has inherited Paul Grillot’s vision and the principles he put forward that were decisive in the creation of Méribel. Principles that he would later develop, making him one of the great exponents of utopian organic architecture.

Booking conditions

Booking with Le Collectionist is both simple and bespoke. Choose a property from our collection, book online or speak to one of our advisors for more details. Once the property is selected and availability is confirmed with the owner, you confirm the booking and its terms.

A deposit secures your booking, then our concierge service takes over to arrange all necessary services and make your stay unique.

In order to confirm your booking, you will need to pay a deposit up to 3 business days after signing your contract.

You will then have until two months before the start of your rental period to pay the remaining balance.

Before your arrival, you will be asked to pay a deposit to cover any damage. The amount will be specified in your rental contract and can be requested from your advisor before booking. This deposit will be used to cover the cost of replacement or repairs, upon presentation of evidence provided by the owner. No amount will be withheld without a thorough inspection.

Check-in at the property is set at 5 pm and check-out at 10 am. Early check-in or late check-out may be possible depending on availability of the property and approval from the owners. These options are not automatically included and must be requested in advance from your advisor.

You may cancel your contract subject to the following fees:

  • Up to 60 days before your arrival: 50% of the total rental amount
  • Between 59 days and the check-in day: 100% of the total rental amount
